Amber: I’d complain about the love triangle so more, but it’s so boring that I don’t have it in me to be offended by it anymore.
Molly: Why must we continue to trap Melissa Benoist in love triangles that are the worst part of their shows?
Amber: Anyway, CAT GRANT KNOWS. I think the timing was perfect because there was only so much longer that I would believe Cat wouldn’t put it together. Plus, now she might learn Kara’s real name! Cat/Kara is definitely my favorite relationship of the show. I’m excited to see how it develops now that Cat knows she’s Supergirl. Although, I still wouldn’t put it past Cat to out Kara to the whole world.
Molly: CAT GRANT KNOWS. I love that she put it together rather than stumbling on it or being told. I think the stories we will get from Cat knowing are more interesting than ones of hiding from her (*glares at BBC’s Merlin forever because I’m still incredibly bitter*). Supergirl seems uninterested in telling the story of hiding her identity from anyone, which I have no problem with. Those stories can be fun and work well, but I’ve also seen it quite a lot and don’t mind doing away with that quickly (Lucy is currently the only person who doesn’t know).
Cat knowing was also exciting enough to distract me from the fact that she also has a secret baby story this episode and can we please stop with the secret babies? She does, of course, know about him, unlike Joe and Oliver, but I am unbelievably tired of this story.
Amber: Just gonna casually mention again how excited I am for Martian Manhunter.
Remember that time every smashed Maxwell Lord’s shit for no reason? Sign me up. Maxwell Lord is the worst.
Molly: Cat getting a glass of candy is one of my favorite little touches on this show so far.
Astra’s husband is the worst, but some of the henchpeople seemed cool. Maybe she can ditch her husband and get with that Colonel Mustard Gas lady or (possibly blind?) Wayne Fields. Astra’s not a good guy, but she deserves better than that awful man.
I did enjoy this episode, even if both storylines felt completely separate from one another.
Amber: Supergirl has been pretty hit or miss with its episodes, but I’m looking forward to the second half of the season. Hopefully we can get rid of the voiceover AND the love triangle. (My hopes aren’t high for either.)
Molly: I’ve enjoyed more episodes than not, but it has occasionally fallen flat. I’m very excited for the rest of the season. What I want when The Flash comes back is for better writing for their women. What I want from Arrow when it comes back is for sunshine and puppy dogs to rain down on them all. What I want from Supergirl is just more. I want to see more! And it sure looks like I’m getting my wish. We’re not even halfway through this season and it sure looks like it will get a second one. I’m glad they’re giving Supergirl the show she deserves.
Molly: Since only Supergirl is running this week, we thought we’d fill the rest of the space talking about our ships on all of these shows. (Supergirl comes back from hiatus several weeks before the other shows and we’re planning on talking about ships on other shows during one of those weeks.)
I don’t think either of us has been particularly quiet about our top ships (yours being Olicity, mine being me/Sara Lance).
Amber: You/Sara Lance is another ship of mine.
Molly: It stands to reason. We make sense and she deserves to be loved by me. We make a great pair. Or threesome if we throw Nyssa in the mix (which sometimes we do; we’re openly poly). Anyway, I don’t live and breathe Oliver/Felicity the way you do, but I definitely love it. And sometimes the leadup is better than when a ship actually gets together, but I’ve loved this half-season of them being together and supporting each other.
Amber: I think the reason I love Olicity so much is because it was a relationship that happened naturally. Felicity wasn’t even supposed to be a recurring character, but the chemistry between Amell and Bett-Rickards is amazing. Oh, also I love them and their love and their dumb faces.
Molly: *casually takes this opportunity to point out Amber has written four Olicity fics which you can read here* *also casually points out that I have written fanfics as well (link) even if none of them are these shows*
Amber: Please don’t read the Supernatural one. It’s not very good.
Molly: No one’s first fic is very good. They’re baby pictures. That’s their purpose.
Amber: True. Alright and we’re both team Captain Cold/Barry, right?
Molly: It just happened! I didn’t plan to ship it, but there was a moment in Leonard’s episode earlier this season where I sent Amber a message that just said, “But what if Captain Cold and Barry kissed?” You scoffed until you actually saw the episode. Then you were completely on board. Everything about his character is even more interesting if he’s also in love with The Flash.
Amber: Yeah, I was like ‘Nah, I’ll never ship it.” But, no they are super in love. That last episode where they were bickering, but not actually fighting each other? Like come on. That’s what people do when they love each other.
Molly: I shipped it even faster than it took for me to decide that Tommy Merlyn was in love with Oliver. I started that conversation, “I don’t believe this, but I guess I could see it,” then talked myself into completely believing it. Similar with Thea and Laurel. My only other real Flash ship was Eddie/Iris/Barry, but that seems pretty well dead in the water.
Amber: I actually totally forgot about Eddie until just now. Just like The Flash writers.
Molly: For Supergirl, I’m mostly just on record as being very, very bored by the love triangle. Kara and Lucy had some chemistry when they first met, but Lucy’s barely been a part of the show since then.
Amber: SAME. I haven’t felt anything about Lucy in general and I don’t really ship her with Kara, but I could get on board with it. Too bad they keep shoving the “James” Olsen and Jeremy Jordan down our throats.
If Alex and Cat Grant ever got in a room together I could ship it.
Molly: “What if Cat Grant were Kara’s sister-in-law?” sounds like an excellent story arc for everyone. Plus anyone is better for Alex than stupid Maxwell Lord.
Amber: Everytime I think about Maxwell Lord flirting with Alex I cringe a little. MAXWELL LORD IS THE WORST. DON’T DATE HIM.
Molly: Alex deserves better. You know who else deserves better? Nyssa Al Ghul. I don’t necessarily need Sara and Nyssa to be endgame (though I would fully support and love that), but I need that relationship to be given what it deserves.
Amber: Agreed. I mean, I’m not holding my breath, but…maybe they’re saving it for Legends of Tomorrow? That could be good? Right?
Molly: Legends of Tomorrow, I think, will be greatly centered on the team’s goals, but I hope and expect to delve strongly into all eight of them (plus Rip). Nyssa is a part of Sara’s unfinished story. Sara has a very, very bad past, but through all that she also had a woman she loved. I firmly believe Sara called her soon after waking back up, but we didn’t get to see that. Both Sara and Nyssa have been a large enough part of that show that we deserve to see what’s happening in their story. Also if they made out a lot that would be good too.
That’s it for the hiatus (if you’re looking for something to watch, I wrote about three shows I hope you catch up on here). Happy holidays, everybody! And by holidays, I mean Star Wars Season.
Amber: Enjoy your holidays and please be nice to retail workers.
